Title:unWISE: new WISE coadds, and WISE photometry for 400 million SDSS objects
Topic:Synergy with other surveys
Abstract:I have produced and publicly released new coadds of the WISE imaging that preserve the full resolution of the original images. (The atlas images in the official releases include an unnecessary blurring step.) Using these images, we have performed forced photometry in the WISE images of each object detected in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (over 400 million sources); these are also publicly available. The result is a measurement (often a low-significance measurement) of the WISE flux of each SDSS source. The resolution of SDSS allows us to measure sources that are blended in WISE, and get measurements for sources that are below the nominal WISE detection threshold. These few-sigma measurements can be useful in stacking analyses, or (as we do in the SDSS eBOSS survey) in combination with information from other bands. We have also merged the SDSS spectroscopy with our WISE forced photometry, yielding over 2 million objects with spectra and SDSS+WISE photometry. These results should be of interest to those doing optical + WISE work, and those working with the WISE images.
