Title: | AGN unification tested with WISE and CLUMPY torus models |
Topic: | Discoveries |
Abstract: | Using a large cross-matched sample of previously classified SDSS AGNs, and aided by our large database of CLUMPY torus models (www.clumpy.org) we identify the ranges of parameter values supported by WISE observations, and derive likely properties of AGN dust tori in general. This characterization is performed with high statistical significance thanks to the unprecedentedly large sample size. For the first time we are now able to predict the number of observable type-2 AGN from an observed sample of unobscured type-1 objects, putting AGN unification to the test. We supplement the missing information on source dimming and reddening with increasing inclination angle by imputing knowledge from the models. The same procedures allow us also to derive type-2 color selection criteria using the complementary viewing angles. |
