Title:DiskDetective.org: The Follow-up Science
Topic:Discoveries
Abstract:At DiskDetective.org, citizen scientists have made over one million classifications, yielding thousands of objects of interest across the sky. However, the Disk Detective project goes far beyond vetting by simple visual inspection. Through an extensive follow-up spectroscopic and imaging campaign, we re-observe many user-classified Objects of Interest to further vet them for background contaminants and derive better spectral types and luminosity classes. Using Palomar/ROBO-AO and duPont/RetroCam for imaging, and Tillinghast/FAST, CASLEO/REOSC, and APO/TripleSpec for spectroscopy, Disk Detective offers three unique disk-search sensitivities: late-type stars (M-dwarfs), evolved stars (K-giants), and YSOs beyond well-studied associations. We will detail our findings so far in each of these three areas of disk science, and describe how you will be able to utilize our data for your own projects in the future.
